“…and all at once, summer collapsed into fall.” - Oscar Wilde
My seasonal role as a Communications and Outreach Assistant at Hakkesetstølen ended on September 5th, and my current Norwegian residence permit will expire on October 4th.
I don’t have to go home, but I can’t stay here.
“Here”, in this case, is the Schengen zone, an area that includes Norway and 34 other countries. Since I do not have another job lined up yet, I will need to leave Schengen until the next work permit application is approved, a process that can take four months or more.
I hope to be back in Norway by early 2023.
Sometime in the next month, I will set foot on U.S. soil for the first time in over a year (!), but before I go stateside, I plan to make the most of the time remaining on my residence permit:
On September 9, I will fly to the Canary Islands for a week.
On September 19, I will go to Gdańsk, Poland for a few days.
Then, before October 4, I plan to be back in the Midwest, visiting friends and family and making improvements to my cabin in western Wisconsin.
More to come soon!
